GeoBus without Borders

GeoBus without Borders (GwB) is our international sister project to GeoBus. Building on its national success across Scotland, we are now taking this impactful Earth science education initiative to schools and communities around the world. Our method implements a scalable ‘train-the-trainer’ approach to equip teachers with low-cost, research informed activities that connect classrooms with cutting-edge science and real-world industry. At its core, GwB seeks to ignite curiosity about our planet and encourage students to explore future careers in geoscience and other STEM fields.

Launched in Namibia in 2023 in partnership with the Geological Survey of Namibia, GwB has already trained 70 teachers in Ethiopia and Namibia, ran workshops for over 900 pupils, as well as securing the support of Namibia’s Ministry of Education. With upcoming programmes in Brazil, Oman, Ukraine and Tanzania, GwB aims to build national capacity for sustainable resource management and support the global green energy transition.

From hands-on classroom training to podcasts and YouTube videos, GwB is expanding Earth science education worldwide – reaching learners wherever they are, one classroom at a time.

Geoscientists looking to turn their research into impact – through workshops or by delivering GwB internationally – are encouraged to contact Dr Catherine Rose.
