Earth Explorers: Trees, Weather and Landscapes

What: CLPL for primary teachers

When: TBC

Where: TBC

Cost: Free – limited places available and lunch is provided

Come along for an interactive day of CLPL for primary teachers with GeoBus.

Take part in three curriculum-linked, hands-on workshops:

  • Time for Trees
    • Using a new GeoBus resource, we will follow an apple tree through the seasons, observing changes over time.
    • Explore a range of seeds and the trees they grow to be.
    • How tall is the tallest tree in Scotland? It’s time to find out.
  • Watching the Weather
    • We’ll choose 4 locations in the school grounds and place an ice block in each.  We will then predict which one is likely to melt fastest and discuss why.  We’ll then record weather conditions at each location and relate our findings to the volume of meltwater produced there.
  • Learning from Landscapes
    • How did the main features of Scotland’s landscape form? In this workshop, we will explore mountain building events and coastline formation as well as using hands-on activities to examine the effects that rivers and glaciers have had on our landscape.

Each workshop provides practical ideas for you to use in your own classroom or school grounds to engage pupils in these fascinating topics.

Participating teachers will be provided with copies of the resources used on the day, as well as basic equipment to help them to transfer these ideas to their own classroom.
