Field Camp

GeoBus is offering a multi-day residential Geology Field Camp for senior pupils looking to further their knowledge of earth science and who wish to take part in a more focused, comprehensive training opportunity.

The course will begin in St Andrews at approximately 4pm on Monday 26th June and finish at Arthurs Seat in Edinburgh at 2:30pm on Friday 30th June. Participants are expected to make their own way to and from the field course – a drop off is available at Waverley Station on the Friday afternoon, or return travel to St Andrews can be provided (arriving back in St Andrews around 5pm).

GeoBus
Field Camp is an excellent opportunity for pupils to gain new field skills, expand their geology knowledge, meet new people and experience university life.

Evening activities and careers talks will also be included, supported by the University of St Andrews and the Geological Society of London. Field work will be conducted at a range of localities to provide a diversity of rock types, different structural settings and geological histories, and is delivered in small groups by experienced GeoBus staff supported by undergraduate volunteers.

Watch our video below for a selection of quotes/photos of previous years and you will have a good idea what to expect.

The total cost of attending is £130 per participant and includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner and field equipment. For costs over £30 travel bursaries may be available and there is some discretionary funding available to support the course fee if this is a barrier to attendance – please get in touch (geobus@st-andrews.ac.uk) for further information. Due to the residential nature of the course, participants must be 16 years or over, and should have a keen interest in Earth Science.

To book a place, please visit the University of St Andrews online shop (https://onlineshop.st-andrews.ac.uk/) and select ‘Schools’ – ‘Earth & Environmental Sciences’ – ‘GeoBus Field Camp’ from the ‘Product Catalogue’ menu on the left. Once payment is complete please ensure you download and complete the fieldcamp consent form and return it to the GeoBus team either electronically or at the address below.

“I enjoyed the evening activities and getting to know people from different areas that I possibly would never have spoke to if I saw them.”
